Our Journey

Founded in 1992 by Mr. Chandra Schaffter, Janashakthi began as a specialised life insurer and earned trust across the country. Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Chandra Schaffter, the Group expanded its footprint, diversified its service portfolio, and became a symbol of innovation and integrity in Sri Lanka’s financial sector.

Our Founder & Chairman Emeritus

Mr. Chandra Schaffter is regarded as a key catalyst in revolutionizing the local insurance industry. Over the last few decades, he has remained a fearless advocate for the development of the insurance industry and he is referred to as the "Father of Insurance" in Sri Lanka.

It is his dynamism and entrepreneurial drive that has made Janashakthi what it is today – a household name synonymous with reliability, efficiency and trust. Furthermore, In recognition of his lifetime of service, Mr. Chandra Schaffter has received numerous accolades. These include the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 16th Asia Insurance Industry Awards in Malaysia (2012), the Lifetime Achievement Award from LMD (2015), the Platinum Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Sri Lanka Insurance Industry Awards (2016), and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sri Lanka Cricket Awards (2024)-underscoring his enduring influence on Sri Lanka’s cricketing landscape.
